For summer, I thought this would be really helpful:
1 dash- 6 drops
3 teaspoons- 1/2 ounce
1 pony- 1 ounce
1 jigger- 1 1/2 ounces
1 large jigger- 2 ounces
1 standard whiskey glass- 2 ounces
1 pint- 16 fluid ounces
1 fifth- 25.6 fluid ounces
1 quart- 32 fluid ounces
Now you'll be able to follow all those bar drink recipes when they use "jiggers" and "ponies".
I have also found some non-alcoholic drinks for the underaged. Now the kids can feel like one of the adults with these mocktails! Besides the standard non alcoholics such as strawberry daiquiris, pina coladas, and the virgin mary, here is one that is less seen:
Margarita Mocktail
1.5 oz. Jose Cuervo Non-Alcholic Margarita Mix
1 oz. Non-alcholic Triple Sec (either Roses or La Paz)
ice
salt
lime (optional, one slice for garnish)
Mix all the liquid ingredients together in a blender. Add ice and crush until the consistency of a margarita or slushee. Take the lime and run it around the top of a margarita glass. Dip the top of the glass in salt (optional). Pour the margarita mixture into the glass and hook the lime over the side!
These can also be flavored with kid friendly drink mixes such as lemonade, grenadeine, kool aid, etc.
XXXXX,
Nicole
